Three universities, one idea – numerous possibilities.

In 2013, Bochum University of Applied Sciences, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Westfälische Hochschule University of Applied Sciences jointly established the Ruhr Master School.

Connected. Regional. Applied.

The aim was, and still is, to enable master's degree students in the Ruhr to design their master's degree programmes in an individual and interdisciplinary manner.

The RMS includes master's degree programmes of the three partner universities in the following fields: information and electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, economics and sustainability.

connected

Across univerity boundaries.

The Ruhr Master School networks its three universities of applied sciences, their lecturers and students. This opens up more opportunities and allows you to look beyond the boundaries of individual disciplines – because each of the three universities has its own profile, its own focus areas, associated competences and offerings.

The aim of the collaboration is to make this potential available across the three universities of applied sciences to both their students and staff members. Students at one of the three universities can complement their master's degree programmes with offers from the other two, thus customizing their career profiles according to their personal interests and goals.

Professors, on the other hand, can design new teaching formats across the three universities of applied sciences with help of the RMS. The exchange and collaboration with colleagues from the partner universities has proved to be a huge benefit for all parties involved.

regional

In the heart of the Ruhr Metropolis.

With more than five million residents, the Ruhr area is the most densely populated region in Germany. Thanks to its density of universities and colleges, it is one of the top destinations to study in Germany as well as in Europe.

A vibrant location for R&D, a young cultural scene and cordial cooperation – just three of the many arguments that make the Ruhr Metropolis an exciting region for studying.

The three universities of applied sciences of the RMS are located in the heart of the Ruhr area and are connected not only by short distances between the locations, but also by digital interfaces in teaching. Industry partners of the universities are also not far away: The region is home to the headquarters of international corporations as well as numerous hidden champions of innovative start-ups and medium-sized companies.

practical

Right in the middle of the use case.

Universities of applied sciences are characterized by the high relevance to the application of the knowledge they provide. The Ruhr Master School also aims to further strengthen the practical orientation of the master's degree programmes, especially focusing on interfaces between different disciplines.

This is why interdisciplinary thinking is a top priority at Ruhr Master School: the attendance of interdisciplinary elective modules as well as the choice of a non-consecutive master's degree programme is possible. In addition to looking beyond professional boundaries, the Ruhr Master School promotes international exchange and the intercultural competence of its students to qualify them for global work environments.
